Almost Wordless Wednesday

Since this is my first Wordless Wednesday I'll have to ease into the wordless part :)


We carved our names into our pumpkins last month. As our pumpkins have grown, so have our names :)

This is our D.E.A.R. (drop everything and read) time. I wasn't sure how this would work with a two year old in the house but he sat and read for 30 minutes as well. He just wouldn't get his picture taken!

This was our special activity that Peabody chose to do on the day that the public school children went back to school. Glow in the dark mini-golf was definitely a great choice!

He asked Gramma and Grampa to attend the event and taught Grampa how to play air hockey. It was a wonderful day!

A Literature Based Home

Having a home that is very literature based is the only thing that I can think of to account for my youngest son's actions yesterday. My oldest son "Peabody" and I were playing Snakes and Ladders. I had a set of dolch words on cards. They were red on one side and blue on the other. Peabody and I had to read the word on the drawn card first before we could shake the die and move our men. "Pot Pie" decided that he wanted to play too. I was able to persuade him that turning over the cards would be a really fun job. I said to him at one point, "You need to show Peabody the blue side", while flipping the card to the proper side. After a few minutes of drawing and presenting Peabody and I with cards to read, I realized that Pot Pie was not only turning the card to the proper colour side each time, but he was also looking at the word on the back of the card and determining if it was upside down or not. If it was upside down he would rotate the card until it was right side up. I could not believe it. He is only two and I have only song ABC's with him. I have never done any formal alphabet work with him at all. He is exposed to books throughout the day and read to several times a day. Witnessing learning in your own child is an amazing thing. It really is. I'm so lucky to be able to take an active part in my children's learning!

Stretching my coding legs

I used to be familiar with html and loved to play around with it. Tonight as I continued to work on my blog and personalize it just a bit I found that I am once again out of practice. New coding and variables to figure out. I am happy that I figured out how to make this two column template into a three column template, but for some reason centering my posts has become a headache. Maybe tomorrow I'll see what I'm missing. Why is there code for startside and endside but no middleside? I tried making my own variable up but that didn't work either.

Maybe a cup of coffee and new eyes in the morning will help me locate the missing portion of coding that needs to be changed!

A New Beginning

I have long been a blog reader. I relish reading through new blogs and being amazed by the creativity and honesty shared within the virtual pages.

As I begin a new year as a homeschooling parent I have decided to join those who have also been inspired to write about their daily challenges and successes.
